Students from Class 8 to 11 participated in the competition to demonstrate their proficiency in Python and problem-solving skills.

The first-ever Bangladesh Artificial Intelligence Olympiad was held at the Institute of Information Technology of Dhaka University on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in the country’s AI education landscape. The event, organized by the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN), brought together students from Class 8 to 11 to showcase their skills in Python programming and problem-solving.

The competition consisted of two stages: an online Python programming contest held on May 8, and a national stage held on Sunday. Out of 150 participants, 50 were selected for the national stage, and 10 of them made it to the next round. The winners of the national round were Abrar Shahid, Adib Bin Kadir, Arefin Anwar, Ashabul Yameen Aurjon, Md Manzum Rahman, Misbah Uddin Inan, Muhammad Saad, Rafid Ahmed, SM Sabib Abdullah, and Towsif Wahid Suprov.

“Nowadays, an internet connection and a smartphone are enough to learn about the ins and outs of technology, and those who have a firm determination and work ethic can achieve great things.” - Lafifa Jamal, BdOSN Vice President

The winners will receive training from May 22 to 25, and the best four trainees will participate in the first International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) in Bulgaria in August. This is a remarkable opportunity for Bangladeshi students to showcase their skills on a global stage.

The event was sponsored by software company Reve Chat and organized in association with Prothom Alo, with ICT Division’s A2I and Bangla Language Project as ICT partners, and Kishore Alo and Bigganchinta as magazine partners.

Dhaka University pro-vice chancellor (academic) professor Sitesh Chandra Bachar was the chief guest of the event.

The Bangladesh AI Olympiad is a testament to the country’s growing interest in AI education and its potential to produce talented young minds who can contribute to the development of the field.
