GU Takes a Leap Towards Industry-Ready Education
In a bold move to equip students with industry-relevant skills, Gujarat University (GU) is set to launch over thirty skill-based courses. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry, making students more employable.
The courses, which include Mudra Therapy, HR Management, GST and Income Tax Filing, Stock Market Analysis, and certificate programs in data science, data analytics, cyber-security, cloud computing, digital marketing, Java programming, Python programming, and artificial intelligence, among others, will be offered to students from all streams - science, arts, and commerce.
“In the meeting, we pitched many skill-based programs focusing on improving students’ employability. We are expecting colleges to show interest in starting specific courses from this academic year. We expect to finalize details very soon,” said Vice Chancellor Neerja Gupta.
Students will be able to enroll in these courses alongside their degree programs and complete them within two years. The National Education Policy 2020 emphasizes the importance of offering skill-based courses to students.
Students will benefit from industry-relevant skills
For science students, GU has identified industries to tie up with, where mentors from these industries will not only offer theory classes but also provide practical training, boosting students’ exposure and competence. Upon completion, GU will award certificates.
Industry partnerships will provide practical training
The course fees are expected to be affordable, although a fee structure has not been decided yet.
GU’s initiative is a step towards education reform
GU’s move towards skill-based education is a significant step towards bridging the gap between academia and industry. With the launch of these courses, students will be better equipped to tackle the challenges of the modern job market.
