Igniting the Future of STEM Education

As a tech enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share the exciting news about the Idaho State University College of Technology’s summer programs designed to ignite high school students’ passion for STEM fields. The Ignite Their Future Summer Programs are open to students entering grades 9 through 12 and will run from June 10 to June 14, 2024.

“We are thrilled to offer this diverse and engaging program, allowing high school students to explore their interests and discover the endless possibilities within the world of technology,” says Ryan Pitcher, Director of Ignite Their Future STEM Summer programs at the ISU College of Technology.

This year’s program boasts an impressive lineup of courses, including Robotic Revolution, Get to Know the Exciting Life of EMS, Intro to Computerized Machining, Coding with Introduction to Python Programming, Rock the World of Transistor Amplifiers Design, and Custom 3D Printed Bluetooth Speaker Project. These courses are designed to provide students with hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the STEM fields.

Students will explore the fascinating world of robotics, from building and programming bots to understanding their real-world applications.

In addition to these exciting courses, the College of Technology is proud to partner with the USDA Forest Service and Excel Technologies. Industry professionals from these organizations will be leading specialized courses, offering students a unique glimpse into real-world applications of technology. These courses include Artificial Intelligence Overview and Sentiment Analysis, Exploring Emergency Management and Incident Response from a Mobile Perspective, Unmanned Aerial Systems Mission Planning Overview, and Cyber Security in the Federal Government.

Students will gain insight into the world of AI and explore how it can be used to analyze and understand human emotions through text.

Students participating in the USDA Forest Service courses will also have the unique opportunity to go on a field trip to the Fort Hall Bottoms, an expansive wetland area known for its rich biodiversity and cultural significance to the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes. This trip will allow them to hear firsthand from Shoshone-Bannock Tribal members and Forest Service employees as they share their inspiring career journeys.
