Sustainable Data Science Training Program Secures $1.65 Million Funding from NSERC CREATE

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) has recently announced a significant investment of over $26 million in funding for 16 new training initiatives through its Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program. Among the recipients is McGill University’s Professor Bettina Kemme of the Department of Computer Science, who has been awarded $1.65 million for the Sustainable Data Systems for Data Science (SDSDS) program.

Data Science Training

The SDSDS program aims to train teams of highly qualified students and postdoctoral fellows, equipping them with the professional and technical skills necessary for their future careers in academia, industry, or government. This initiative brings together several Canadian and international academic and industry partners, solidifying McGill’s position as a leader in data science research and education.

“The SDSDS program will provide a unique opportunity for students to develop a deep understanding of sustainable data systems and their applications in various fields.” - Professor Bettina Kemme

The funding, which will be distributed over six years, will enable the program to focus on developing innovative solutions for sustainable data systems, addressing the growing need for efficient and environmentally friendly data management practices.

Sustainable Data Systems

As the demand for data science professionals continues to rise, the SDSDS program is poised to make a significant impact on the industry. By providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in this field, the program will contribute to the development of a more sustainable and efficient data science ecosystem.
