University of Madras Launches Innovative BSc (Blended) Programme

The University of Madras has recently introduced a pioneering BSc (Blended) programme, which combines the study of basic sciences with python programming. This innovative programme is designed to equip students with a strong foundation in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology, as well as coding skills using python programming.

Students will learn python programming along with basic sciences in University of Madras’s newly launched BSc (blended) science degree programme.

In the first two years of this programme, students will study a range of subjects, including physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology. In the third year, they can choose to specialize in physics, chemistry, or mathematics. The programme is designed to provide students with a flexible and interdisciplinary education, preparing them for a wide range of career opportunities.

“As part of the flexible papers in the degree programme, we are teaching computer simulation with python programming and coding for three semesters,” said Rita John, head of the department of theoretical physics and coordinator for the BSc (blended) programme.

In addition to coding, students will also study English for critical thinking and communication, psychology, and other courses. The curriculum is designed in collaboration with the University of Melbourne, and students will have access to video lectures, e-books, and other resources prepared by Melbourne University faculty members.

During the third year, students will pursue a project in frontier areas and submit a research paper as part of the course. This will provide them with valuable research experience and prepare them for a career in science.
